Friday was a sizzler around the North State, and the heat won't let up for a while... this weekend should be just as hot! Next week will be "less hot", as Valley highs dip into the 90's.
Strong high pressure and a light north breeze sent high temperatures through the roof on Friday... most Valley locations were around 105! That light north breeze completely cut off any cooling we see from the ocean (the Delta Breeze usually brings us a little cooling that way), so we cooked on Friday afternoon.
High pressure will remain strong through the weekend. The north winds will actually pick up on Saturday, gusting 10 to 25 mph. Not only will that keep us very hot, it will also increase the fire danger. Red Flag Warnings (for high fire danger) are in effect in the Sacramento Valley through Sunday. The winds will turn to a southerly direction on Sunday.
That strong ridge of high pressure will weaken as we go into next week, so our temperatures will cool down... slowly. Look for Valley highs in the upper 90's to begin next week, but drop to the low 90's by the end of next week.
The Summer sizzle has arrived just in time for the beginning of Summer. Stay cool this weekend!
